Understanding PacMan StrategyOne of the most popular videogames of all time is PacMan. For the past 30 years, it has been played millions of times by millions of people. Naturally, strategies have been figured out for how to beat the game in record times. Some are easy, some are hard but all are tried and true to beat essentially the greatest arcade game of all time.When you are in the game, one of the most important things to realize is that when PacMan is eating dots, he is slower than when he is moving through a clear alley. This means that if there is a ghost right behind PacMan, there is a better chance he will be caught if he is eating dots. Try and find a clear lane to use and go back to the dots when things around you are clear. Another great strategy is to clear the bottom of the maze first. This is the most dangerous row of dots that you have to clear because it is a long stretch with very few escape routes that allow you to get trapped by ghosts. If you do this right at the start, when the ghosts are in the pen, you will not have to worry about being trapped there later (and moving slowly because you are eating dots). Two of the ghosts, Inky and Clyde, are first and second to leave the pen and they will go to the lower left and lower right side immediately, so clear it out first. PacMan can also move faster around corners than the ghosts can, so this presents you with a great opportunity to get away from them. Try to zig-zag around corners and you should be able to escape the ghosts easily, especially if you are in clear alleys and not eating dots. There is a safe spot in the game, which is the left side of the T-section that lies beneath the ghost pen. Here, the ghosts cannot find or catch PacMan. However, the ghosts cannot see PacMan go there, and you must always approach the safe-spot from the south. Remember, the power pellets are your friends, so a great strategy can be to lure the ghosts towards you and then eat a power pellet, turn around and eat the ghosts. By taking advantage of clear alley ways and corners, you will be able to get the ghosts and buy yourself some much needed time to clear the maze. PacMan is actually quite a simple game using simple programming. Things like the safe-spot are errors in the code that you can exploit, as well as the slowness of the ghosts around the corners, and into the tubes. Using these types of strategies, along with eating the dots on the bottom first and using clear alleys to get away, mean you can beat this game and join the select group of people who have beaten PacMan over the past 30 years.
